A little bit more time

I’m going to make this blog short, because I want you to visit another website in just a moment. http://www.poodwaddle.com/worldclock.swf is a world clock that counts the number of “things” that have happened today, or this month, week, or year. Since the time I started writing this blog less than a minute ago, according to the clock, 29 people have died of heart disease and 2 have died because of car accidents. Since January 1, almost 16,000 species have become extinct.World Clock at Poodwaddle.com

I don’t want to bring you down because of these facts. But I do want to shed light on how our choices affect our world. Get the above fact alone - more people have died from heart disease than car accidents. Yet we continue to eat cholesterol laden, high fat, low nutritional food that will ultimately result in heart disease and death. Many people are afraid to drive or ride in cars because of the possibility of getting in a car accident. This is an incongruity that would confound Spock, yet we humans continue to choose this inconsistency.

Speaking for myself, when I’ve seen such clocks in the past my first instinct is to go out and change the world. My choices now reflect a willingness to change myself first. When I focus on myself - then I really have the opportunity to change some of the numbers in that clock. Only then do I have any power to change the world.

Homework:

What conclusions do you come up with when you look at the clock? Is there anything that speaks directly to you? More importantly, what are you willing to do to take action?

Truly Yours in a Fearless World,

Joseph Lyons
