For the past 2 decades, I’ve been working to keep my weight in check. I’ve seen a naturopath, nutritionist, personal trainers, Weight Watchers, other diet groups in person and on-line, Overeaters Anonymous, and even used my coach to work on my weight. Alot has stuck with me. And so has alot of extra calories.
So, I [...]

Progress and Growth
Lately I’ve been reading over some previous blog entries and through my journal. I’ve had wonderful awareness over the past several months. Some of my entries, however, seem like they were written by another person. It’s like I experience a part of myself and allow it to fly away from my consciousness.
There can be a [...]

Tomorrow I Meet a Master
A few years ago when I decided to become a coach I joined my local professional coaches association. The NW Coaches Association is a local chapter of the ICF, or International Coach Federation. Within just a few months I had joined a group to develop projects and programs and now I serve on the Board of [...]

Work It Out
I’m on my last day of a 12 day vacation. I’m in a motel in Medford, Oregon - a place that has held many fears for me. A past of college, dating, partying, and making stupid college mistakes. Now it’s time to make up.
I used to swim competitively for about three years. I don’t think [...]

Willing to Run
Picture it. Portland, Oregon. February 2, 2008. It’s cold and snowing. Why, oh why, am I putting on tennis shoes and heading out the door? I’m starting Foot Traffic’s University, a training program for running or walking a half marathon. And I am willing.
Exactly 33 days ago, at the beginning of the year, I ran [...]

797 out of 933!
Good Morning and Happy New Year!
I decided 100 days ago that I would open up the new year running (!) the First Run, an annual 5K race that begins at the first moment of each new year in Portland.
I just checked online and I saw my ranking in the finish line - 797 out of [...]

keep oregon changing
Earlier today Len and I were driving around Portland’s Pearl District. Everything was so CLEAN. I mean, immaculate. I remember the days when Henry’s pumped out intoxicating fumes right in the middle of the city, and Powell’s was a small and musty stink-hole. I LOVED it. The Armory was a neglected and ancient symbol of [...]

Changed My Life This Week
About 10 years ago I decided not to go into theater. I was studying theater in Ashland at Southern Oregon State College and realized that I would never make enough money in theater to pay my student bills - and that was a stupid business decision. So, after some years of “bumming” around, I went [...]

Whacha Need?
I was talking the other day about how my goals have shifted over time. I no longer need to stop smoking or lose weight. I no longer need to get a new apartment or stock the kitchen. I’ve accomplished those tasks. I’ve also found and nuture the love of my life. I’ve been accepted into [...]

The Myth of Positive Thinking
One of my favorite movies is The Music Man, in which Professor Harold Hill instructsĂ‚ students to play music just by thinking the music. The town is fascinated by the professor’s easy-method-to-results which in the end was nothing more than a get rich scheme. The Music Man was written about an era when alot of [...]
