Intuition, Impulse, Inspiration
I love words. I love these words: intuition, impulse, and inspiration.
Intuition: comes from the latin to look at.
Impulse: comes from the latin to push.
Inspiration: comes from the latin to breathe in.
My intuition this morning when I woke up was to go to the beach. The weather is something beautiful today. The sun is out, few clouds in the sky, and the air just seems – clean. My eyes saw beauty which affected my inner awareness – that is to say my intuition is probably effected by the stimulus of beauty.
So I was pushed to action. The impulse to take in more beauty hit me hard this morning. I could sit here for the next eight hours at my computer working, or I can get out and play today. The impulse came from that intuition I had just a moment ago.
As I write this I remember that when I arrive, I can make the choice to be inspired. That is, to take in a deep breath and really soak up the moment. Allow the smell of the beach in, as well as the sight of the ocean, the roar of the waves against the rocks and sand, and the sensation of the slightly cooler air against my body. Who knows, that may lead to more intuition and I may see more than I ever have.
Ok, if that slightly esoteric ramble hit you, fantastic! If not, remember this: Awareness (intuition) can lead you to action (impulse). When you act, I encourage you to pause a moment and enjoy the action to increase your awareness (inspiration).
Homework:
Stop for a moment today and really see something. Maybe it’s the pile of laundry, maybe it’s the flower weed beds, maybe it’s your partner. But really look at it without judgment and decide what the impulse is. Maybe the impulse is to press some of the dandelion heads from the weed bed to make an art project. If you really stop and look, you might see there’s a whole other action to take than the one you first thought.
When you do that act, stop again and look at what you did do. Soak it in and enjoy it. Slow down and just enjoy the new world you created. How does that inspire you?
Truly Yours,
Joseph Lyons
