My secret obsession
I want to fess up about something. For the next 11 months I will be watching polls and looking at maps of the US in red and blue. It started today when I kept clicking on news stories and went here; http://news.yahoo.com/election/2008. It’s a simple, clean persepective on the presidential election.
I come from two families that talk about politics. My dad loves to challenge and provoke thoughts about politics. My mom is passionate and emotional about her political views. I used to march in anti-war demonstrations with my aunt, and my grandmother used to campaign for gay rights.
I really love watching states go from red to blue. A handful of people don’t like a political ad – the state turns red. A news scandal comes out about another candidate, and the state turns back to blue.
It’s astonishing how a positive change of .02% in one candidate’s poll receives a giant green arrow pointing up! And another candidate who goes down by that same amount recieves a gray arrow, pointing down.
What am I, cattle? I eat this stuff up like a cow in a grain silo! I’m not going to hide my fascination with politics this year. I admit that I love watching the campaigns and votes come about. I will watch with glee and excitement as I participate in the campaign process.
Truly Yours – in peace,
Joseph Lyons
